Testing mould for coffee

Writer's picture: Maria Laura BassiMaria Laura Bassi

We have started doing the test with coffee and to design a mould.

We put an amount of coffee ground in a cloth to dry it. Then we try to add a little bit of water to dampen the coffee and make it keep the shape of the mould we use.

Initially we put the damp coffee in a container with a circular hole but we needed to take it out, and pushing it out sound as an easier way.

Then we realized we needed to add a component to the coffee which allows it to make the block stronger and not easily crumbly. We needed to use something available at university and in big quantity, so we thought at powder clay. We started to do tests to find out how much poweder clay was required in proportion for a block.
