Olafur Eliasson exhibition

Writer's picture: Maria Laura BassiMaria Laura Bassi

This artist developed works in different context, also in the geometry one, that why I was so curious to visit his exhibition at Tate Modern.

It was opened with a Model room, my paradise, were there were all the test models in a huge box.

various material, shapes, technics, systems and their combination. It reminds me of the Work In Progress show, when we display our tests.

He and his studio have worked with a lot of media, such as light,, shadow, reflection,

At the end, he exhibit the research done base on themes and there was the Geometry theme too. In front of it there was a prototype too, so I could observe it closely. Again, it seemed another polyhedron with LEDs imbedded but the structure was interesting.

There was a table where people could build structures freely. The joint system was really well articulated: different colors for different shapes and different holes where to slot in the stick with the same shape at the extremity. It was really intuitive.

I will consider the idea for a spot as a workshop station for a future exhibition. It would be great let my audience engage directly with my sculpture if they have the possibility to build one or a part of the structure. If the system has kept simple, this aim is easier to realise.
