Making paper tubes

Writer's picture: Maria Laura BassiMaria Laura Bassi

Instead of use ready-made material with the shape that I need, such as rolls of toilet paper or kitchen paper, that got also standard dimension which is not good for my work, as I need thiner and longer tubes, and think about fold paper with an origami technic, I put in practice once again another simple way to transform a 2D sheet of paper in the 3D object that I need: rolling it.

Because of the sheets of paper are already thicker of the usual ones we use for printer, the rolled tube become more robust and resistant also thanks to the numerous layers I get, as we can see if I tear or cut one of them.

I thought to use these for my sculpture and use kitchen paper rolls for the scaffolding, because they are larger and made by cardboard. I will need to do some test about the length, as the dimension of the cube influences how big the scaffolding need to be, in order to not be seen.
