First 3D printed joint

Writer's picture: Maria Laura BassiMaria Laura Bassi

After the first attempt with the 3D printer making 5 tetrahedron, this time I wanted to design a joint that could start to solve the issue I got with the joints for my kinetic cube. To start, I had a look on the internet, what few websites about making offer already modeling. I downloaded one of them and even if it was exactly what I needed, it was the same kind and I needed a model where to start to make changing in order to get my costumes one.

This project is called Ball joint by Jaae and is available on the website Thingiverse at:

To get the right file for the 3D printer Ultimaker, Gabriele helped me to convert the 3D draw file extension with the software Cura. Understanding and knowing use different software and how connect each other develop new possible ways to think and design an objects. A problem could now be solved in another way, knowing new technology and tools, for example creating a component that I can not find on the market yet. On the other hand, I will also track it back to what is already existing, such as the joint of our elbows and how it is solved in robot arms.
